She believed she could

so she did

About Me  Races   Ask me anything

Giving up is not an option.

This among other things is what I had to tell myself during today’s run. It was a total mind game the whole time. Here’s a snippet of the conversation I was having in my head.

Today’s run calls for 5 miles, but I can just do 3 and run 5 tomorrow, right?

It won’t be any easier tomorrow, just run 5 now.

But it’s hot…

It’s North Carolina, duh, it’s always hot this time of year. It’s going to be hot tomorrow too.

There are supposed to be storms coming in, I don’t want to be caught out here in a storm.

It’s not storming yet, and you’re basically running loops around your house, it’s not like you’re ever very far from home if it does start to storm.

But, Brian is out of town and I have to take care of the animals by myself tonight.

They can wait 20 more minutes

My feet hurt, I’m tired of running

Suck it up, you’re almost done

Can’t I just take this short cut, I’m almost done and it only cuts off a quarter mile?

Do you really want to run 4.75 miles when you’re this close to 5?

So there you have it. Five miles on the schedule. Five miles done.

5.09 miles in 57:19 (11:16 min/mile); 4:1 (run:walk)
